    About this item

An original 1942 Dated Women's Land Army 'Overalls, Coats, Drill' in well used condition.

This pattern of overall coat was used throughout the Second World War by the WLA and is often referred to as the 'Milking coat'. Like a lot of workwear produced during this period, this coat is made from a tan coloured cotton drill and features removable revolving shank buttons. It is cut as a jacket which is intended to sit above the knee and features two front pockets and a waist belt which fastens with two green coloured vegetable ivory (plastic) buttons. The notched collar can be fastened across the wearer's neck with another similar plastic button.

Inside the coat the original label is still present and is still legible. It bears the title 'Overalls, Coat, Drill' and the size of Medium which is designed to fit a 35" - 38" bust. The manufacturer's name of 'Robert Glew & Co Ltd' is present as is the War Department broad arrow marking. and the 1942 date.

When laid flat the coat measures -

    Chest - 21"
    Waist - 16"
    Inside arm - 16 1/2"
    Outside arm - 20 1/2"
    Shoulders - 16 1/2"
    Length - 34 1/2"

The coat is in well worn condition as can be seen in the pictures. It was clearly used for work as was its intended purpose and has various staining as well as a large L shaped repair to the front of the skirt. It is still very wearable and has a nice authentic look to it with no serious flaws or damage. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a pre-worn vintage jacket which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice original example with a good clear label and wartime date.
