    About this item

A scarce original pair of 1943 dated Civil Defence A.R.P 60b Rescue Party battledress trousers in good condition.

Serge battledress trousers were introduced in July 1941 and used by various arms of the Civil Defence including ARP Wardens. These trousers are the rarer rescue party 60B pattern which were made from a heavier serge wool. Like their Army counterparts they feature a map pocket to the left leg but no first field dressing pocket to the upper right leg, belt loops to the waist, slash pockets to each hip and a flapped rear pocket. The 'B' designation refers to them being the austerity pattern which does not feature tabs to the cuff and feature stitched belt loops rather than the buttoning type found on earlier manufactured trousers. The fly features stamped brass buttons and more of the same style are fitted around the inside of the waistband to which braces can be fastened. The buttons fitted to the exterior are dark coloured horn examples.

To the rear of the trousers the original label is still present and bears the title 'Trousers A.R.P. 60B' and the size of 1. The manufacturer's name of 'The Rego Clothiers Ltd' is present as is the 1943 date. The War Department broad arrow is also present.

The trousers are a small size and which will suit someone of around a 29" waist and when laid flat measure -

    Waist - 14 3/4"
    Rise - 15"
    Rear rise - 18"
    Inside leg - 28"
    Outside leg - 40"
    Cuff - 8 1/2"

The trousers are in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. They show some signs of wear and use but overall display very well. There is wear to the bottom of each leg as detailed in the pictures. Due to the dark colour of the wool serge material, they are only noticeable on close inspection and should not be visible when worn.

A rare pair of wartime trousers which still retain their original label. These would make a fine addition to any Home Front collection.
