    About this item

An original pair of 1943 dated Canadian made battledress trousers in a large size 14. These trousers belonged to Major B D Ashton who was a member of the Royal Army Service Corps in the inter-war period and served throughout the Second World War. He was awarded the North Africa Star, Italy Star and France and Germany Star so he certainly saw some action.

This pattern of trousers was introduced at the beginning of the Second World War and saw widespread issue with Canadian troops throughout the conflict. Many British soldiers, particularly officers, also wore Canadian made battledress if they could get their hands on it as it was perceived to be of a higher quality to British made examples. In cut it closely follows the British 'Battledress, Serge' issued at the beginning of the war. It is however made from a darker, greener shade of serge and features Canadian pattern buttons. The first field dressing pocket also fastens with buttons as do the ankle tabs found at the bottom of each leg.

Inside the trousers the original markings are still present and state the size as No.15. The maker's name is also present as is the 1943 date.

The trousers are a hard to find larger size and will suit a 38" waist. When laid flat they measure -

    Waist - 19"
    Inside leg - 30 1/2"

The trousers are in good condition with some limited signs of wear and use. They display well but do have a small moth nip to the crotch as illustrated in picture 5. Overall they are totally wearable but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that they are a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice original pair of trousers in a hard to find large size with wartime provenance. The matching battledress jacket will also be listed shortly.
