About this item
An original pair of 1944 dated Women's Auxiliary Air Force Battledress Trousers in good condition.
This pattern of trousers was introduced into service with the WAAF in 1941 as a working dress. Made from serge wool which is dyed the regulation RAF blue colour, the slacks feature a side button opening which fasten with black plastic buttons. Another button is located to the middle of the front of the waistband and is used to fasten the matching battledress blouse to the trousers.
Inside the trousers there is a single pocket which is accessed from the right hip. To this is affixed the original label which bears the title 'Suit, Working, Serge, W.A.A.F. Trousers' and the size of 5. The manufacturer's name of 'L. Harris Ltd' is also present as is the 1944 date and the War Department broad arrow marking. Adjacent to this is the War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'M' which denotes the year of issue as 1944.
The trousers will suit a 26" waist and when laid flat they measure -
Waist - 13"
Hips - 21"
Rise -16"
Rear rise - 17 1/2"
Hips - 22"
Inside leg - 28 1/2"
Outside leg - 42"
Cuff - 10"
The trousers are in good condition with no signs of serious wear or use. They display very well and are still very much wearable with just a small moth nip as illustrated in the final picture. This is only noticeable under close inspection. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that they are a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
A good example of these hard to find trousers, complete with a nice clear wartime date. These would make a good addition to any collection.
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
