Original Early WW2 RAF Ordinary Airman's Field Service Cap Attributed

An original early WW2 RAF Ordinary Airman's Field Service Cap with history.

This cap belonged to Corporal Sydney Cooper 991457 who served with the RAF throughout WW2. He joined up before February 1940 so would have been serving during the Battle of Britain. He was posted to No.111 Operational Training Unit, Nassau in the Bahamas where he spent a long period. 

This cap is an early war example which is denoted by the large white label inside the cap only used in 1940 and earlier manufactured caps. This would suggest that it is the cap the Corporal Cooper was issued with when he joined the RAF at the beginning of the war. Aside from that it is a standard issue example made from the usual RAF blue-grey coloured wool serge and featuring brass King's crown buttons to the front. A black plastic economy pattern RAF cap badge has been fitted to the front and has been shaped as illustrated in the pictures. 

The cap is approximately a size 6 7/8 and measures 10 1/4" along the opening when laid flat. 

The condition of the cap is good overall with plenty of signs of wear and use. It was almost certainly worn throughout the entirety of the war and this is reflected in the condition. 

Altogether a nice early war example with some interesting history.
