    About this item

An original pair of British Military 1950 Pattern Khaki Drill shorts dated 1962 which are in deadstock, unworn condition.

This pattern of shorts came into issue with British forces at the end of the Second World War but the official pattern came into issue a couple of years later. They saw service for a number of years with the British Army and RAF. This style with the cross belt fastening is now often referred to as 'Gurkha Shorts'.

The shorts are made from a green dyed cotton drill material and feature a twin pleated front and slash pockets to each hip. The rear of the shorts features twin pockets which both fasten with a single vegetable ivory (plastic) button. The fly also fastens with the same type of buttons whilst the cross belt waist closure fastens with their original chrome plated buckles. These are removable for washing purposes and are often missing from shorts and trousers offered on the market today.

Inside the shorts retain their original maker's label which is bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Shorts Drill Green 1950 Pattern' below which is the size of 2 which is intended to fit a 31" - 33" waist. The maker's name of 'Clifford Williams & Son Ltd' is also present as is the 1962 date and the War Department broad arrow marking.

Due to the style of the waistband the shorts are slightly adjustable and will suit around a 30" waist. When fastened they measure -

    Waist - 15"
    Rise - 13 1/2"
    Rear rise - 16"
    Inside leg - 7"
    Outside leg - 19"
    Cuff - 12 1/2"

The shorts are in excellent condition as can be seen in the pictures. They have clearly never been worn or laundered and would be accurately described as 'deadstock'. Overall the shorts are very wearable but please study the pictures and bear in mind that these are pre-owned vintage shorts which may have small issues commensurate with age.

An excellent pair of original 1950 pattern shorts which would make a great addition to any collection or summer wardrobe.
