About this item
A scarce original pair of 1963 pattern windproof trousers in green which was made by 'Belstaff' in the late 1960s.
This pattern of trousers was introduced in 1964 alongside the matching smock and were made until 1970 when they were replaced by the DPM pattern. It is made from a high quality cotton gabardine which is a flat green colour. The silhouette of the trousers is still recognisably the same as the windproof trousers produced in the Second World War with a single patch pocket to the front which is usually referred to as a map pocket. Tabs are located to the bottom of each leg which fasten with green coloured vegetable ivory (plastic) buttons. The waist is fitted with a drawstring of the type usually seen on 1963 pattern items.
Inside the trousers the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Trousers Windproof' below which is the catalogue number CM-3485-99-122-1873. The size of 4 is also present as is the maker's initials of 'B.M.C' which denotes Belstaff is the maker. The A/78 contract number of A/73/CLO/99153/DC69(2) is also present which denotes that they were made in the late 1960s. The War Department broad arrow marking is also present.
When laid flat the trousers measure -
Waist - 22 1/2"
Rise - 17 1/2"
Rear rise - 18 3/4"
Inside leg - 31 1/2"
Outside leg - 47"
Cuff - 10 1/2"
The trousers are in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. There are some signs of wear but overall they are a clean example. There is a repair next to the label and another to the bottom of the right leg as illustrated in the pictures. Overall they display very well and are totally wearable but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have some flaws commensurate with age.
A very good example of this rare pattern of trousers with a nice clear label.
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
