    Hello and welcome  We are very pleased to be placing this item for sale.

    This an original pre World War One French Dragoon uniform. ( poss pre 1900 ) So around 120yrs old

    In heavy blue wool with original silver plated buttons. All in good condition. But one of which is missing on the left side so will not effect the fastening

    Decorated with white frogging. 

    Small moth damage just under the third button down

    Original lining. 

    Sword slit on left hand side there is a sword vent

    There is a cotton linining on top of the inside collar which is not original, but has been added by the costume house to stop it rubbing on the neck and for cleaning purposes such as make up, it can be easy removed.

    There is no regimental embroidery on the collar.

    This uniform came from an old costume house in France who acquired them after World War 1. France government surplus.

    Stamp inside is a stock take number.

    The breeches are a heavy weight wool in red with white frogging.  There is  drawstring waist.  This was was done by the costume house as originally there would have been brace buttons.  This was done so they could fit more potential actors in them.

    The trousers have signs of moth unfortunately in the crotch

    Aristide Boyer who were based in Marseilles finally closed in 2004 and over a three day auction sold 65,000 costumes all over the world.  Founded in 1802 by Joseph Roize, then sold to Aristide Boyer in 1912. The uniform was purchashed by them from the French Government surplas after WW1.

    This uniform has been my  possession since the 80's when I bought it in one of their routine warehouse clearances.
