    About this item

A fantastic original Battledress blouse and trousers which belonged to a Lance Corporal of the 9th Lancers who served in North Africa as well as Italy during the Second World War.

Like many men who fought in Italy, this L/Cpl was issued with a set of American made War Service Dress. A huge amount of War Aid clothing was issued in Italy which ties in well with the 9th Lancers who served there as well as with the medal ribbons displayed above the left breast pocket.

Both the jacket and the trousers are the standard American made version and are of a higher quality than British made examples. The jacket features exposed buttons to the chest pockets by a fly covered front. The jacket is fitted with brass IXL shoulder titles as were worn by the 9th Lancers in place of the 9L titles they were supposed to wear. Below these are the 6th Armoured Division formation flashes which would have been fitted in 1945 when the original owner transferred across from the 2nd Armoured Brigade. The double Royal Armoured Corps arm of service stripes particular to this unit are fitted below this and there are also lance corporal stripes fitted. Medal ribbons are fitted above the left chest pocket which include the Africa star which has the First Army '1' fitted to it denoting that the original owner served in the British First Army. Both of the original labels are present to the interior of the jacket and bear the size of 3 and the date of 1943.

The trousers are also War Aid examples which are in good condition. They come complete with their original braces and the original labels are present to the interior. The label bears the size of 7 along with the 1943 date.

A very nice original battledress set with all the right details.
