Original 1949 Dated British Denim Battledress Trousers - Size 11

An original pair of 1949 dated British Denim Battledress Trousers which are a large size No. 11. 

This pattern of trousers came into issue with the British Army during the Second World War and remained standard issue well into the 1950s. These trousers were used for fatigues and are made from a green denim sanforized cotton, typical of that used for workwear in the mid century period. Based on the serge battledress design, these trousers feature a map pocket to the left leg, a first field dressing pocket to the right hip and slash pockets in the usual place in each side seam. They are cut with a high rise and wide leg as were all men's clothes during this period.

Inside the trousers the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the title 'Overalls Denim Trousers' below which is the size of 11 and details pertaining to size. The manufacturer's name of Clifford Williams & Son Ltd' is also present and is a very rare maker to find. Below this is the 1949 date and the War Department broad arrow. When laid flat they measure -

Waist - 18 1/2"
Rise - 19"
Rear rise - 21 1/2"
Inside leg - 34"
Outside leg - 49"   
Cuff - 10 1/2"

It is important to remember that these trousers were designed to be worn over the standard wool battledress uniform and therefore should be worn oversize for an authentic fit.

The trousers are in deadstock, unworn condition. They are very fresh overall and display very well with no flaws or damage. Please study the pictures and bear in mind that they are a vintage item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
