About this item

An original pair of British Army camouflage windproof trousers in a size 5 which date from the Second World War.

This pattern of trousers was introduced in 1943 and were based on the earlier drab and snow windproof trousers. These examples are made from a lightweight gabardine fabric and are cut in the same style as the earlier windproofs with a wide leg, drawstring waist and map pocket to the left leg. The seat features a reinforced section and ankle tabs are located to the cuff which fasten with green coloured vegetable ivory (plastic) buttons. This suggests that they were most likely made in 1944, although could have been made in 1943.

To the rear of the trousers the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the title 'Trousers, Windproof' and the size of 5. The manufacturer's name of Denhams (Norwich) Ltd' is present as is the War Department broad arrow marking.

The trousers are designed to be worn over the battledress uniform and are therefore cut in a wide manner. They are intended to fit a 33" - 34"  waist and the drawstring waist allows them to be pulled in a lot. When laid flat they measure -

Waist - 20"
Rise - 16"
Rear rise - 19"
Inside leg - 31"
Outside leg - 45"
Cuff - 10 1/2"

The trousers are in good condition overall with some limited signs of wear and use. There is a field repair to the crotch as illustrated in picture 5 but aside from that, they are a very clean and wearable pair of trousers. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that these are a vintage, pre-owned pair of trousers which have small issues commensurate with age.

A good original pair of windproof trousers with a nice clear label.

This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
