Scarce 1945 Dated Fleet Air Arm Battledress Trousers - Size 9

A very rare original pair of Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm Battledress Trousers which are dated 1945 and are in good condition.

After much resistance from the Admiralty who were very much against the idea of officers of the Royal Navy wearing Battledress, a new uniform was introduced alongside the matching blouse in January 1944. The Fleet Air Arm also had a battledress style uniform approved which differed from the Royal Navy version as they feature a map pocket to the front left leg.

Made from a very dark blue dyed serge wool, the trousers feature slash pockets to each hip, two rear pockets, a button fly and brace buttons around the top of the waist. The trousers are cut in keeping with the fashion of the period having a high rise waist and wide leg. There is a map pocket fitted to the front which is of the same style as seen on British Army battledress.

The original label is present to the rear of the interior of the trousers and is still bright and legible. It bears the title 'Trousers, Serge Fleet Air Arm' and the size of No. 9. The manufacturer's name of 'Thorneloe & Clarkson Ltd ' is located at the bottom of the label as is the date of 1945. 

The trousers will suit someone of around a 36" waist depending on desired fit and when laid flat measure - 

Waist - 18"
Rise - 16"
Rear rise - 21"
Inside leg - 31" (2 1/2" extra to let down)
Outside leg - 43"
Cuff - 9 1/2"

The trousers are in good condition and display very well. Overall they display well with some signs of wear and use and there are a couple of small repairs to the front and rear which are illustrated in the pictures and reflected in the price. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that they are a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small issues commensurate with age.
