Luftwaffe Flying Branch / fallschirmjager Tunic 1938
Item details
An excellent example of a 1938 dated Luftwaffe Tunic (Tuchrock) to an Obergefreiter’s in the flying branch.
Constructed in the standard Luftwaffe blue/grey wool/rayon blend construction Tunic features a vertical, four button, front closure with small fold back lapels and a lay down collar.
There are four pleated front pockets with straight edged button down flaps. The breast pockets are the basic patch type while the hip pockets are the bellows type with expanding side panels. The right breast has a machine embroidered Luftwaffe eagle in silver/grey threads on a cut-out blue/grey wool base. The eagle is neatly handstitched to the tunic and was, I am told re-applied after having been found in one of the pockets.
Each sleeve terminates in a deep French cuff, the left sleeve with the rank chevrons in place. On each lapel are the rank tabs of an Obergefreiter with the yellow of the flying branch whilst each shoulder strap is piped in a matching yellow waffenfarbe.
Inside the owner has added an extra pocket on the right side whilst his issue name tag remains in place in the left pocket above which are the stores markings LBA (Luftwaffenbekleidungsamt, Air-Force Clothing Depot) markings for 1938 and chest size 36.
Overall condition is very good with light surface moth grazing to the left shoulder strap and two small nips at the waist which would be concealed by a belt.
