Original 1943 Dated ATS Officer's Service Dress Suit + Cap by 'Burberry'

A stunning original Auxiliary Territorial Service officer's uniform grouping to a captain consisting of a tunic,  skirt and matching cap; all of which were made by the prestigious British maker 'Burberrys'.

This uniform belonged to a captain who served with SHAEF, or to give it its full name 'Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force'. This was the high command for Allied forces in Northwest Europe during World War II, operating from late 1943 until the end of the war in 1945 and was a pivotal part of the D-Day landings and the subsequent campaign in France and onwards through Europe.

The jacket is an austerity Pattern example which is typical of the mid-war period. It features a full set of insignia which is all original to the jacket and includes a matching pair of officer's quality ATS collar badges as well as a set of three rank stars which are fitted to each shoulder. This denotes the rank of captain. An original SHAEF formation badge is fitted to the upper portion of the right sleeve. The tunic is complete with its original ATS Coloured lanyard and waist belt. Inside the tunic is fully lined in a golden coloured rayon and the original label is fitted to the neck. It bears the maker's name of 'Burberrys' along with the classic graphics used by this company for many years. All of the buttons on the tunic are large sized gilt examples which are sometimes encountered on high quality officer's uniforms.

The matching skirt is made from the same material as the tunic. It features a metal zipper at the waist which has a plain brass puller. Inside the skirt a label is fitted which bears the date of 26th July 1943. 

The final piece of the grouping is the matching cap which is a beautiful private purchase example which is also made by Burberry's. It is the early pattern which was worn from the early part of the Second World War onwards. It features a stitched peak and the chin strap is made from the same barathea cloth as the main body of the cap. A bronze officer's quality cap badge is fitted to the front of the hat and the buttons are also officer's quality general service examples. The interior of the cap has had a piece of cardboard fitted to the crown which is clearly original to the hat and shows signs of being worn in with this fitted. When this is removed the Burberrys maker's label is revealed and is typical of the period.

The uniform is in fantastic condition and displays very well indeed, as can be seen in the pictures. It is very clean overall with no notable flaws or damage. It is a vintage item so please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small flaws commensurate with age. 

This is a brilliant opportunity to acquire a genuine and authentic ATS uniform which was worn during the Second World War. It has some excellent wartime history being a SHEAF badged example.
