About this item
An original British Army Leather Jerkin clearly dated 1944 and in a size No.2.
This pattern of leather jerkin came into issue with the British Army during the Great War and stayed in service throughout the Second World War and well into the post-war years. This particular example is dated 1944 and is labelled as a camouflaged version. The body of the jerkin is made from a mid brown leather whilst the interior is lined with a khaki green shirting material. The original buttons are all still present which are often missing on examples found today.
The original label is still present inside the jerkin and bears the title of 'Jerkin, Leather No. 2 Camouflaged' as well as the manufacturer's name of 'Dephyrane Garments Ltd'. The size is marked a 2 which is designed to fit a 376" - 43" chest over the jacket.
When laid flat the jerkin measures -
Chest - 22"
Shoulders - 20"
Length - 31"
The jerkin is in good condition for its age with signs of wear and use. It displays well and still appears to be strong and wearable but does have wear to the leather and some limited moth damage to two areas of the interior which is illustrated in the pictures. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage item with small issues commensurate with age.
A nice original Leather Jerkin with a good clear label and date. This would suit a re-enactor or collector well!
