Original 1945 Dated British Army Demob Waistcoat - Size 38

An original 1945 dated British Army demob waistcoat complete with its original label.

This waistcoat was made as part of the 'demob' clothing scheme which came into effect in 1942 and was designed to supply those men and women leaving the British forces with a complete set of clothes when they were 'demobilised', or 'discharged', from military service. Original examples of demob clothing are now becoming rare, especially war dated examples which still have their original labels such as this.

The waistcoat is made from a chocolate brown coloured pinstripe cloth which is typical of the 1940s and demob suits. It is brighter than it shows up in the pictures. The lining is also the striped kind often found in this era. It features a 5 button front and four welt pockets whilst the rear does not feature a cinch-back which is a typical detail found on utility waistcoats. The interior of the waistcoat is fully lined. 

This particular example comes complete with its original linen issue label making it a collectable in its own right. The label bears the title of 'Demob'd Servicemen Waistcoat Pattern No M214' below which is the size of 39 Short. The 1945 date is also present, as is the War Department broad arrow marking. As well as this there is a purple coloured cicular approval stamp as is often found in demob clothing from this period. 

The overall condition of the waistcoat is good as can be seen in the pictures. It is very unlikely that this has ever been worn as the label would have either been removed or would have worn of very quickly, as they are only lightly tacked on.

Altogether a nice original waistcoat which still has its original label. Wear it or keep it as a collector piece!
