    About this item

An original Royal Navy Able Seaman's Kitbag.

This pattern of kitbag was introduced in the inter-war period replacing the early pattern which had a rope-edged seam around the base. This pattern was still in use meaning this most likely dates from the 1940s or 1950s.

It is a large bag, much larger than used by the Army and Air Force, which is made from a tan coloured canvas. It is tubular in shape and features an integral flap which ties with string. Brass eyelets are fitted around the top of the bag which tie with a rope.

The bag features a red painted anchor as well as a red band around the waist of the bag. The original owners details are stenciled to the bottom which include the owners name 'A. Kettle' as well as his number. A paper address label is also fitted to the bag.

The bag is large and when laid flat measures -

    Height - 38"
    Width - 24 1/2"

The bag is in used condition but is sound and displays well.

    A nice original kit bag!
