    About this item

An original 193 dated British Army 1949 Pattern Battledress Jacket which belonged to a captain in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps.

This pattern of jacket was introduced after the end of the Second World War and stayed in issue until the 1960s. Due to its long service life it is now ubiquitous with the British Army in the Cold War period. Like its WW2 counterpart, the jacket is made from khaki coloured wool serge and features green coloured vegetable ivory (plastic) buttons throughout. Embroidered RAOC shoulder titles are fitted to the top of each sleeve and below this are West Midlands District formation badges. Three red coloured rank stars are fitted to each epaulette which denote the rank of captain.

Inside the jacket the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Battledress Blouse, 1949 Pattern' below which is the size of 10. The maker's name of 'Denham (1933) Ltd' is also present as is the 1953 date and the War Department broad arrow. As well as this there is a War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'L' which denotes the year of 1953.

The jacket is in excellent condition overall and displays very well. There are no signs of excessive wear or damage and on the whole it is a very clean example save for a small hole to the rear of the right sleeve which is illustrated in the pictures. Please study the pictures and bear in mind that these are a vintage, worn pair of trousers which have small issues commensurate with age.

A nice original badge battledress jacket from the Post WW2 period.
