    About this item

A nice original 1941 pattern Auxiliary Territorial Service khaki drill skirt which is dated 1947.

This pattern of skirt was worn by members of the ATS throughout the Second World War and into the immediate postwar period. It is made from the standard tan coloured cotton drill used for KD items during this period and the cut is based in the 1942 pattern service dress skirt which was made in saxony serge. The skirt features a side button opening which in part fastens with small press studs whilst a buttons close the waistband. Unlike the saxony serge version, there are no pockets.

Inside the skirt the original label is atoll present and is bright and legible. It bears the title ‘SKIRTS KD ATS 1941 Pn.’ Below which is the size of 6 which is intended to fit a 26” - 27” waist. The makers name of ‘J. D. FIELDMAN & CO. LTD’ is also present as is the 1947 date and the War Department B-road arrow marking.

The skirt will actually suit a 24” waist and when laid flat it measures -

    Waist - 12”
    Hips - 20 1/2”
    Length - 24 1/2”

The skirt is in excellent condition overall with only limited signs of age or west. It displays very well and is totally wearable but please take time to stud the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A very good example of this wartime pattern of skirt!
