Original 1942 / 1945 Dated US Army M1910 Canteen, Cup and Cover

An original Second World War United States Army canteen set consisting of a 1945 dated water bottle, matching 1945 dated cup and an earlier 1942 dated canvas cover.

The M1910 canteen was one of the standard pieces of individual equipment issued to American soldiers throughout the Second World War. Designed to be carried on the M1910 pistol belt or field pack, it provided troops with a reliable means of carrying drinking water in all theatres of operation. By the latter stages of the war the aluminium canteen had become the standard pattern and was normally paired with a nesting aluminium cup and heavy canvas cover. Whilst covers were frequently retained and reissued, it is not uncommon to find later dated bottles and cups housed in earlier wartime covers, as is the case with this original set.

The set comprises an original aluminium water bottle dated 1945 together with its matching aluminium cup which is also dated 1945 and marker marked 'S. M. CO.' Both remain clean and present well. The bottle is housed in its original olive drab canvas cover which is dated 1942 and features the correct webbing belt hanger with lift-the-dot fastener. The 'U.S.' marking is faded to the front but is still visible whilst the rear bears the maker's name and the 1942 date which is again faded but the date is legible.

The canteen set is in good vintage condition with honest signs of age and service wear. The canvas cover displays wear and patina as illustrated whilst remaining strong and entirely usable. The bottle and cup are both clean with only light age-related wear and no issues which detract from their display.

An honest original Second World War US Army canteen set which would make an excellent addition to any collection of American field equipment or a perfect finishing touch to a mannequin display.

This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
