    About this item

An original example of the scare 1908 pattern 'Other Services' Haversack dating from around the time of the Great War.

This pattern of haversack was introduced in 1911 initially produced for thos note issued the 1908 pattern equipment. It was often worn with the 1903 pattern bandolier equipment and it replaced the haversack which previously formed part of that set. It is often referred to as the 'mounted pattern' or 'dispatch pattern' by collectors. This pattern was used by motorcycle dispatch riders well into the 1930s and up until the beginning of the Second World War.

These packs were designed to be worn with a single 1908 pattern cross strap allowing the bag to be slung across the body, ideal for dispatch riders.

The pack is maker marked 'M. W. & S. Ltd which denotes Michael Wright & Sons as the manufacturer. The date is no longer legible as it has faded which is quite common to find with Great War period webbing.

The pack is in very good condition and has clearly been 'blancoed' with a light green coloured blanco at some stage of its life, so it was certainly issued.

A rare pattern of pack in nice condition.
