About this item
An original WW2 period Royal Air Force officer's khaki drill tunic in a size 38.
This pattern of tunic was used by the RAF in the inter-war period and into the 1950s. Like many khaki drill items, this example is devoid of any labels or markings making it impossible to date exactly. The type of cotton drill used along with cut and various other details however mean that this example was made during the 1940s and no later than the early 1950s. It features pleated chest pockets with scalloped pocket flaps, lower bellows pockets and a pointed cuff. A waist belt made from matching tan coloured cotton drill is also present and is fitted with the correct double prong brass buckle. There are straps to the shoulder to which epaulettes can be fixed and a full set of brass King's crown buttons are fitted to the jacket. There is a small white size tag fitted to the neck which reads '38' and pertains to chest size.
The tunic is intended to fit around a 38" chest. When laid flat it measures -
Chest - 21"
Waist - 15 1/2"
Inside arm - 18"
Outside arm - 25"
Length - 29 1/2"
Shoulders - 17 1/2"
The tunic is in good overall condition and displays well. There are some signs of wear and use and some limited staining. On the whole it is a very clean example but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small issues commensurate with age.
A nice original 1940s RAF officer's tunic in good, usable condition.
