About this item

A very nice original 1940s British made engineer work jacket which belonged to a member of the RAF who served during the Second World War.

Whilst this is not an RAF issue jacket, it is an original period item which belonged to an airman who served during WW2. It was found amongst a number of his uniform items which all dated from the war and was clearly used by him during the same period. There are some colour photographs from WW2 which actually show this type of jacket being used by groundcrews.

The jacket is typical of 1940s engineer jackets in almost every way. It is made from a khaki coloured cotton drill material and the front fastens with three buttons which are the removable revolving shank type which were commonly used on workwear clothing during this period. Three patch pockets are fitted to the front of the jacket and the lapel features a pronounced shape which is typical of 1940s jackets. Inside the jacket there is a hanging loop at the neck and a couple of laundry stamps.

The jacket is a larger size which will suit around a 40" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 22 1/2"
Inside arm - 16"
Outside arm - 22 1/4"
Shoulders - 17 1/2"
Length at back - 29 1/2"

The jacket is in good condition overall and is still very wearable with no damage or serious flaws. There are some signs of wear and use and some soiling around the inside of the collar as well as general signs of laundering. Overall it displays well and is still very wearable but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A very nice mid Century workwear jacket which is so typical of the era and comes complete with RAF history.

This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
