About this item
A nice original Royal Air Force Ordinary Airman's Tunic which was made in 1942.
This tunic is the standard pattern worn by all men in the RAF under the rank of sergeant throughout the Second World War. It features a complete set of original brass Kings crown buttons, wartime semi-embroidered eagle badges to the top of each sleeve whilst corporal stripes are fitted below these. The tunic comes complete with its original matching waist belt with brass buckle.
Inside the tunic the original label is still present and bears the title 'Jackets O.A.' below which is the size of 8. The maker's name of 'Arthur & Campy, Ltd' is present as is the 1942 date which has been overstamped in 1943. As well as this there is a War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'N' which confirms 1943 as the year of issue.
When laid flat the tunic measures -
Chest - 19"
Inside arm - 17 1/4"
Outside arm - 24 1/2"
Shoulders - 17 1/2"
Length at rear - 30"
The jacket is in good condition with signs of wear and use. It displays well with no serious flaws aside from two small holes which are both covered by the belt (pictures 9 + 10). Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
A nice original wartime tunic which comes complete with its original insignia.
