Original 1943 Dated Royal Engineers Battledress Blouse

An original Canadian made battledress blouse dated 1943 which belonged to a sergeant in the Royal Engineers.

This jacket is a Canadian made example which was worn by a sergeant in the Royal Engineers during the Second World War. It was not uncommon for British soldiers to be issued with Canadian made battledress and it was coveted by many as it was considered to be of higher quality than the British made version. This example is fitted with embroidered Royal Engineers shoulder titles, below which are the corresponding Arm of Service stripes. Sergeant stripes are also fitted and above each one is a flaming orb. There is also a 'slip-on' fitted to each epaulette which is currently unidentified. Of particular note is that the collar has always been fastened to the top and not open with a collar and tie which would suggest that this was a wartime used jacket, rather than a late war or early post-war used jacket. 

Inside the jacket the original manufacturer's stamp is still present and bears the maker's name of 'Workman Uniform Co. Ltd' along with the 1943 date. The size is marked as 9 and the Canadian broad arrow marking is also present. 

The jacket is in reasonable condition for its age with some signs of wear and use. There are some holes and moth grazes which are illustrated in the pictures. Please study these before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-worn item which has some small flaws commensurate with age. 

All in all a nice original Second World War battledress blouse with original insignia. This would make a nice addition to a Battledress collection!
