    About this item

An original 1944 dated Women's Land Army Macintosh Raincoat in a size large.

Officially designated 'Macintosh W. L. A', this raincoat is typical of the period. It is made from a khaki tan coloured rubberised canvas as was used for a lot of wet weather clothing for the British military during this period. It features a double breasted front, waist belt with leather buckle and twin slash pockets to the front. The coat features no lining and has brown painted metal vents under each arm.

Inside the coat the original label is still present and is mostly legible. The 1944 date is present as is the War Department broad arrow and the size of 'large' which is designed to fit a 36" bust. The maker's name of Leonard Morris is also present. As well as this there are black ink stamps which confirm the date of 1944 as well as the size.

When laid flat the coat measures -

    Chest - 21 1/2"
    Inside arm - 17"
    Outside arm - 22 3/4"
    Shoulders - 17"
    Length - 45 1/2"

The overall condition of the coat is good and it has aged well with the rubberised material still being pliable and flexible. It appears to be very wearable but has had the tab on the right sleeve removed. There is also a slit to the material on the right sleeve as is detailed in picture 5. The coat displays nicely with some signs of afe and wear but please study the pictures before purchasing.

A hard to find piece from this period which aside from a couple of flaws is a very good example.
