    About this item

An original 1943 dated British Army Officers Service Dress Tunic which belonged to a Scottish officer who served in the Royal Artillery during WW2.

This pattern of tunic was used by British Army Officers for many years and still hasn't changed drastically to this day. This particular example however clearly dates from WW2. It is made from a khaki green barathea and features a rayon lining. Pleated patch pockets are fitted to the chest whilst large bellows pockets are located to the skirt. All the buttons are brass King's crown Royal Artillery examples and a set of RA collar badges are fitted to the lapels. Two rank stars are fitted to each shoulder which denote the rank of Lieutenant and five long service chevrons are fitted to the lower portion of the right hand sleeve which denotes that this officer spent much of the fighting overseas.

Inside the jacket there is a hanging loop at the neck below which is the tailor's label. It features typical graphics of the period along with the maker's name of 'James B. Leitch' and the address of 80 Union Street, Aberdeen. The original owner's name has been added in ink along with the date which appears to be 1943.

The jacket is a small size and will fit around a 34" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures

    Chest - 19"
    Inside arm - 18"
    Outside arm - 24 3/4"
    Shoulders - 16"
    Length at back - 30"

The jacket is in good condition and displays well. It is still very wearable with no serious flaws or damage. There is some service wear and a few small moth holes which are illustrated in the pictures. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

All in all a good wartime example of a British Army Officers Service Dress tunic which would make a good addition to a collection.
