    About this item

An original 1944 Dated Women's Land Army 'Overalls, Coats, Drill' in good condition.

This pattern of overall coat was used throughout the Second World War by the WLA and is often referred to as the 'Milking coat'. Like a lot of workwear produced during this period, this coat is made from a tan coloured cotton drill and features removable revolving shank buttons. It is cut as a jacket which is intended to sit above the knee and features two front pockets and a waist belt which fastens with two brown coloured plastic buttons. The notched collar can be fastened across the wearer's neck with another similar plastic button.

Inside the coat the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the title 'Overalls, Coat, Drill, WLA' and the size of Medium which is designed to fit a 35" - 39" bust. The manufacturer's name of 'A Learner & Son' is present as is the War Department broad arrow marking. and the 1944 date.

When laid flat the coat measures -

    Chest - 21"
    Wasit - 16"
    Inside arm - 16"
    Outside arm - 20 1/2"
    Shoulders - 17"
    Length - 35"

The coat is in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. It has clearly only seen some wear and use and has some staining etc. There are no serious flaws or damage. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a pre-worn vintage jacket which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice original example with a good clear label and wartime date.
