Original 1949 Dated 1940 Pattern (Dismounted) Greatcoat - Size 7

An original 1940 Pattern (Dismounted) Greatcoat as used by the British Army during the Second World War dated 1949. 

Whilst this example is post-war dated it is identical to those worn during the Second World War. This pattern was introduced until 1951 when it was replaced with a new pattern making this an ideal stand-in for a war dated coat.

The coat is made from the standard khaki coloured blanket wool serge used for greatcoats during this period. It features a half belt to the rear and a full set of wartime economy green plastic kings crown general service buttons. These were clearly surplus stock which were still being used post-war. Sergeants stripes are fitted to each sleeve and appear to be original to the coat. They are nice original period badges and have been neatly applied.

The coat retains its original issue label to the interior which bears the War Department broad arrow marking as well as the 1949 manufacture date. The coat was made by 'Manclark & Son' and is a size No. 7. 

The coat is in good condition as can be seen in the photographs. There are some signs of age and wear and the hanging loop has period repairs. Overall it is very wearable but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age. 

A nice original wartime pattern greatcoat which could suit a collection or re-enactor well.
