    About this item

An original British Army DPM Extreme Cold Weather Parka dating from the Falklands War period.

The contract number on this smock dates the smock to being made between 1979 and 1985. It does not feature a First Field Dressing pocket which denotes this as an earlier example as used around the time of the Falklands Conflict. This pattern of parka was worn by the SBS Commandos during the conflict.

The coat is made from cotton which has had the Disruptive Pattern Material camouflage pattern screen printed onto it. The front of the jacket fastens with a double-ended heavy duty plastic zipper which is maker marked 'Talon' and there are four patch pockets located to the front. The coat features a large hood which has a wire fitted around the mouth and a drawstring is also present and features a plastic adjuster which is marked 'Fixlock'.

Inside the coat there is a large open top pocket located to the tail which is divided into sections as well as a 'fishtail' as seen on Denison smocks and other military jackets. The original label is also present to the interior and bears the title of 'Parka Man's Cold Weather' below which is the size of 180/104. The maker's name of 'H. E. Textiles' is also present as is the contract number of CT4B/907.

The coat is designed to fit a 40" chest and when laid flat it measures -

    Chest - 27"
    Inside arm - 28"
    Outside arm - 25 1/2"
    Shoulders - 24"
    Length at rear - 39 1/2"

The smock is in good condition with some signs of wear and use and is still very wearable. There are no serious flaws or damage although there is a small tear to the right elbow as illustrated in the pictures. This is a vintage, pre-owned item which has been worn so please take time to study the pictures before purchasing.

A nice original example from the Falklands War period.
