    About this item

An original 1944 dated Indian made British Aertex Battledress Jacket as used by a variety of British and Commonwealth servicemen in the latter part of the Second World War.

This pattern of jacket was introduced in 1943 alongside the KD Battledress trousers. It is made from cellular cotton, often referred to as 'Aertex', which is a lightweight, breathable fabric which is ideally suited to hot climates. Based loosely on the woollen battledress blouse, the jacket is cut in a short 'blouson' style and features a full button front with waist belt. As well as this it features pleated chest pockets and an inner pocket. As this blouse was designed to be worn against the skin the button which fastens to the inner pocket is reversed and fastens through the inside of the breast pocket, meaning that the button can't rub on the wearer's skin. All of the buttons are the coconut husk type often seen on Indian made clothing whilst others are period replacements.

Inside the jacket the original manufacturer's markings are still present. The 1944 date is present in a circular stamp and the size stamps are all present. The jacket is a smaller size which will suit around a 36" - 38" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat measures -

    Chest - 21 1/2"
    Waist -
    Inside arm - 23"
    Outside arm - 26 1/4"
    Shoulders - 17"
    Length - 22 1/2"

The jacket is in good condition with no real signs of wear or age. It looks to be an unworn, deadstock example but please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned jacket which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

All in all a very nice example of this pattern of WW2 jacket with a clear wartime date.
