About this item
A rare original example of the ATS Jungle Green Bush Jacket which is clearly dated 1945.
This pattern of jacket was produced for the Auxiliary Territorial Service during the Second World War and is based on the men's pattern. It is made from cellular cotton which is often referred to as 'aertex'. It is a lightweight, breathable material which is ideally suited for use in hot climates and was popular with the British military throughout this period. As with a lot of JG and KD items, this jacket was produced in India and features the coconut husk buttons which are commonly encountered on Indian made military jackets from this era. The jacket retains its original matching waist belt which features hand stitched buttonholes which is another typical trait of Indian made clothing. It is fitted with a double prong brass buckle. Printed 2nd Army formation badges are fitted to the top of each sleeve which would suggest that the original owner served in the Far East. There are also signs of where a single rank badge has been fitted to each epaulette.
Inside the tunic the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Shirts, Bush A.T.S.' below which is the size of 4 which is designed to fit a 36" - 37" bust and a 38" - 39" hip. The maker's name of 'DAWOODSON' is present and below this is the 1945 date. Under this is the letter 'I' which denotes that it is an Indian made garment.
When laid flat the jacket measures -
Chest - 21"
Waist - 15"
Inside arm - 19 1/4"
Outside arm - 23 3/4"
Shoulders - 16 1/2"
Length at rear - 27 1/2"
The jacket is in very good condition with no signs of undue wear or age. There is some staining to one of the formation flashes which may have happened whilst in storage. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small issues commensurate with age.
A very hard to find piece of WW2 women's uniform with a nice clear label.
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
