About this item
A scarce original British made Anti-gas cape which was made during WW2.
This pattern of cape was made throughout the Second World War and saw widespread issue with British troops as well as Canadian and other commonwealth soldiers. They are now very rare to find today and a key part which is missing from many collections. This example has been rolled up as they would have been carried by soldiers during the war and is presented in this form for display purposes.
The cape is made from a green coloured, linseed oil impregnated cotton which features a brown camouflage disruptive pattern. There are two khaki coloured cotton tapes fitted at the neck which are used to either tie the cape to the wearer's body or store it when rolled up. The original string is also present to the centre of the cape which would have been fitted in WW2.
The cape is in fair condition for its age and it displays well. It has a tacky feel as it should have and I have partly unrolled it to find that it appears complete. There are some areas of damage which are visible when it is rolled and have been reflected in the price. Please bear this in mind before purchasing.
A good example which would make a good addition to a mannequin or kit display.
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
