About this item
An original 1941 dated British Army 1940 Pattern Battledress Blouse which belonged to a REME captain who served in Anti Aircraft Command.
This jacket is the standard 1940 pattern used from the middle of 1940 until the end of the Second World War. It is made from khaki green coloured serge wool and features fly-covered buttons throughout. The original stamped brass buttons have been replaced by the original owner with brown coloured vegetable ivory (plastic) examples which is not an uncommon modification to find on an officer's battledress. The jacket comes complete with its original wartime applied insignia which includes printed Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers shoulder titles below which are printed Anti Aircraft Command formation badges. Padded REME officer's rank stars are fitted to each epaulette with the uppermost being notably cleaner showing that it was added when the original owner was promoted from lieutenant to captain.
Inside the jacket the original label is no longer present although the War Department acceptance stamp is. It is surmounted by the letter 'P' which denotes 1941 as the year of issue. There is also an anti-vesicant stamp which bears the date of 11 41 denoting November 1941.
The jacket has been well worn and shows signs of this. It has stains and wear consummate with this, particularly around the collar. There is also some historic moth damage which is notable to the left sleeve, right breast pocket, left rear shoulder and right hip. This is illustrated in the pictures and reflected in the price. The jacket still displays very well however and oozes originality. This is an authentic wartime Battledress Blouse and not a later badged up jacket.
Altogether a lovely original Battledress jacket that displays well. It would undoubtedly compliment any Second World War British Army display or collection.
